Tips for car rental abroad
Plan to rent a car abroad? We have collected a few important tips for your car rental abroad:
◾ Pick up time
Please note, the vehicle will be kept for you until one hour after the time indicated on the voucher for picking up the vehicle (pick-up time) or until the closing time of the pick-up station, whichever comes first.
In case you realize you will be late it is recommended to contact the car pick-up station (the contact info is listed on your car rental voucher) and follow their instructions.
◾ Credit cards, saving deposit and credit line
When picking up the vehicle you will be asked to present a credit card as a deposit. The credit card for the deposit must be on the name of the main driver.
The deposit amount will mostly be blocked to ensure the vehicle would be returned according to the pre-agreed rental conditions and also to guarantee possible future payments.
The deposit will be automatically released at the end of the rental period, so you will be able to see it free in your account within 14 business days.
Note that the types of acceptable credit cards vary from provider to provider, and these will be detailed on your rental voucher.
◾ Car rental agreement
After you will present the relevant documents to the company representative at the counter (international credit card, licenses, passport, etc.) you will be asked to sign the rental agreement.
Remember, a car rental contract is a legal contract, and your signature on it is binding.
Therefore, we recommend t carefully read the Car Rental Agreement and make sure that all the details of the contract are clear to you before you sign it.
For example review the additional driver details (if there is one), any extras booked such as a baby seat, GPS or ski equipment (and their rates), make sure it is listed that you plan to travel to neighboring countries, etc.
You may be offered additional paid services at the rental station abroad.
Be sure not to sign off any add-ons, upgrades or additional services or coverages if you do not need them.
◾ Fuel tank
The vehicle was delivered with a full tank of fuel. The renter must return the fuel tank in the same condition as it was received.
In the event of a lack of fuel in the tank when returning the vehicle, a payment will be collected from the vehicle renter according to the rate determined by the vehicle supplier only, plus special fueling fees.
◾ Make sure to return a clean car
The vehicle will be delivered to you in a clean condition. It is important to keep the car clean and return it in the same condition as it was received.
In addition, smoking in the car is prohibited.
In the event that the vehicle will be returned dirty beyond reason, as will be defined by the vehicle supplier only, or with any signs of smoking (such as ash in the ashtray, the smell of cigarette smoke, etc.), the car rental company will charge a special cleaning fee.
