The highway system in Belgium is convenient and free, but it is not one of the best in Europe.
On some roads there is no uniformity in signage, and the fact that the country has two official languages, French and Dutch, can be confusing at times, and affect the ability to navigate the roads.

For example, the city of Antwerp is called that in Flanders (the Dutch-speaking part), while in French-speaking Wallonia it is called Anvers. Liege in French is Luik in Flemish.

Another important example is the "stop" sign: in French the sign will be written peage while in Flemish it will be tol.

Confused? Don't worry, careful use of Google and navigation apps will help you find your way around, and of course the representatives of the rental company will be happy to help you with any questions about this.

Please note that at intersections traffic coming from the right has the right to go forward, unless otherwise specified.

The fuels that you can find in Belgium are unleaded gasoline 95 and 98 octane, diesel and LPG. Regarding the usage of car lighting, be sure to turn on lights in conditions of fog, snow or limited visibility.

◾ Winter tires and snow chains

Please note that many countries have different winter laws that sometimes require driving with winter tires and/or snow chains depending on the road conditions. A vehicle with summer tires in the winter season is subject to fines and even immediate shutdown. It is recommended to order snow chains in advance and in any case make sure before leaving the rental station that you know how to put them on and that they fit your vehicle's tires.

at very low temperatures, the fuel in the tank may freeze. Therefore, we recommend parking the vehicle in a covered parking lot and/or adding antifreeze liquid to the fuel tank when refueling (a special substance that prevents freezing), which can be purchased at gas stations if necessary.

Knokke-Heist a coastal town near the Dutch border, about 19 kilometers from the city of Bruges. The city is known as a resort town for Belgian Jews in the summer months. There are four beaches in the town - along with paved walking and bicycle paths leading to the sand dunes. Of course, you can also find museums and art galleries there, along with pleasant summer entertainment.

Right next to the Antwerp Chocolate Museum is the famous Antwerp Zoo. The zoo was founded in 1843, and is famous for being home to about 1000 species of animals, and also for the architecture that characterizes it and the habitats of the animals.

The largest and most profitable shopping sites in Belgium are located in the main cities - Brussels and Antwerp.

The main shopping area is Rue Neuve, a pedestrian street packed with all the best that well-known brands have to offer. If you prefer an organized and heated shopping experience, at the end of the street you can find a large mall, which will meet all your shopping needs in one place.

 The lively city of Antwerp is considered, among other things, a well-known fashion center. Some of the famous Belgian fashion designers have located themselves in this city. In Meir, the central pedestrian street of the city, you can find local and international brands, inside magical buildings from the 18th century, which makes the experience of walking between the shops special and unusual, even if you don't intend to leave with loot.
 

Diamonds

Chocolate is not the only production branch of Belgium, of course you can also find a lot of diamonds there. Antwerp is home to the "Diamond Quarter", a world diamond trading capital that is definitely worth a visit. We cannot guarantee an experience for every pocket, but it is recommended to visit, and beware of fakes that are common in the place.
