Porto Driving Tips:

◾ Portugal's toll roads
Toll roads are common on Portugal's intercity roads, and fees are charged according to the section of road you travel on.

When picking up your rental car, it's recommended that you add a Via Verde Transponder Device if you plan to use toll roads.

Toll payments can be made directly via credit card, eliminating the need to wait in lines, handle small changes, or risk fines. Furthermore, some toll fees in Portugal can only be paid at local post offices, and using the device saves you the time and hassle of finding a nearby post office and standing in line during your trip.

From March 1st, there is a mandatory daily charge when driving a rental car on toll roads (Via Verde). Additional toll charges for the roads you use can be added to the daily rental fee of €1.69 + taxes or the total rental fee of €16.90 + taxes.

History in Porto

Many members of this community fled to North African countries due to persecution and forced conversion to Christianity.

Porto is located on the banks of the Douro River, near the city’s famous bridge. Along the river, there is a charming promenade with cafes, excellent restaurants, and street performers to enhance your experience. Sitting by the river and enjoying the beautiful view is highly recommended.
If you cross the bridge, you can enjoy one of the most stunning viewpoints in the city.

The Harry Potter Library

Near the Clerigos Church, you’ll find the famous library often called “the most beautiful library in the world” by various magazines. It was established in 1906.
The library’s design will remind you of elements featured in the Harry Potter films: a high ceiling, spiral staircases, and beautiful stained-glass windows. Entrance to the library costs €4, which will be deducted if you purchase a book.

Here, you’ll find international brands like Zara and H&M alongside small stalls and local boutique shops, with friendly vendors happy to chat at length. Trendy and cozy cafes along the street provide a perfect break during your shopping trip.

A massive mall with all the most popular brands, including Primark, located about a 20-minute drive from Porto’s center. The mall also features a large food court offering a variety of cuisines. You can easily spend several hours here.
